Curriculum and Faculty
Global Learning Semesters is partnered with the Universidad de Alcalá for our Summer in Spain: Spanish Language & Culture program. Our host institution is fully accredited and will provide the transcript for students successfully completing academic course work.
The programs are designed and administered by the
Institute for North American Studies (IUIEN) in Trinitarios College. Students enrolled in the IUIEN Spanish Studies program obtain official credit from the University of Alcalá. The summer term(s) last for 4-8 weeks and every course is worth 3 credits (45 class hours). The Research Institute for North American Studies is an official entity endorsed by the University of Alcalá and by the Regional Government of Madrid. All the study programs offered in the field of Spanish studies are officially approved by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Alcalá.

Placement Test
Students enrolled in the IUIEN Spanish Studies programs
must take a standard language placement test in
order to be assigned correctly to their appropriate
level. The test consists of two parts: one part
of grammar, and the other of reading comprehension.
Both sections are explained in English, with examples
for a better understanding of the questions. This
is a multiple-choice test, and the answers are
marked on a separate answer sheet.
Faculty
The IUIEN Spanish Studies program has a great number
of professors, both Spanish and foreign, who teach
in the different academic fields offered by the
institute. Many of our professors have studied,
researched or worked in the United States, so
they know the profile and the academic needs of
the students very well. Our classes are characterized
by the integration of the cultural and social
environment in the classroom through activities
and visits to emblematic places, like museums
or institutions, in the area of Alcalá
and Madrid. The class environment is dynamic and
relaxed, which enables and facilitates students
participation. Faculty bios are available upon
request.
