Summer in Cyprus

Student Housing

While in Cyprus, you will stay with other Global Learning Semesters students in same-sex apartments or houses (units). Your housing will be either in residential areas near the University of Nicosia campus or near the downtown shopping district of Nicosia.

Some important points about housing

Unlike some other programs, we guarantee housing. Your housing will be available for move-in at the beginning of the program.
Our units are modern, furnished, and include kitchens, lounges and basic amenities (e.g. refrigerator, toaster, oven, etc). As is typical of apartment living, not all units are identical as it relates to amenities, furniture and size.
Our base fees are for double-occupancy living (e.g. two students per bedroom). Units might have 1, 2 or more bedrooms.

Some, but not all, of our units have WiFi (wireless internet broadband) available for a $15/month/student fee (typically 4 students/apartment must enroll). The University of Nicosia campus library has WiFi access available for all students free of charge.
Students that would like a bedroom of their own can request a single room by paying the single supplement with their program fees. We cannot guarantee availability of single rooms and will refund single supplements if we cannot accommodate a single room request. It is highly unlikely that a student will be able to successfully request a single room after he or she has arrived in Cyprus.
Room assignment occurs after the participant list for a semester is finalized. We attempt to accommodate reasonable roommate or housing preferences, but make no guarantees that we will be able to do so.
Our units are not supervised residence halls. Students are expected to be capable of mature, independent apartment-style living with their roommates.

All else being equal, we prioritize housing requests based on the date we receive a student's full payment (earlier is better). This is not an absolute factor, but is used as a "tie-breaker" when needed.
Most of our units are within walking distance of the University of Nicosia (approximately 5-15 minutes by foot). We help make supplemental travel arrangements for students located downtown that might need to travel to school by car or bus.

Maro Apartments (Premium)

Maro Apartments are located at a two minute walking distance from our host institution, the University of Nicosia, in the residential area of Makedonitissa. This neighbourhood is one of the most prestigious areas of Nicosia and only a ten minute drive to the city center.

The apartments are new, only having been completed in 2006. They are all two-bedroom apartments and can accommodate four people, are fully furnished with wardrobes, writing desks, living room, kitchen with full catering equipment, bathroom with shower and a veranda.

Maro apartments are our premium housing option on Cyprus-based programs and require payment of a premium supplement. The rooms are also double-occupancy only.

Intercollege Apartments

Intercollege Apartments are located at a two minute walking distance from our host institution, the University of Nicosia, in the residential area of Makedonitissa. This neighbourhood is one of the most prestigious areas of Nicosia and only a ten minute drive to the city center.

All apartments are two-bedroom and can accommodate four people, are fully furnished with wardrobes, writing desks, living room, kitchen with full catering equipment, bathroom with shower and a veranda.

All apartments are two-bedroom and can accommodate four people, are fully furnished with wardrobes, writing desks, living room, kitchen with full catering equipment, bathroom with shower and a veranda.

Maro House 1

Maro House 1 is located at a 6-7 minute walking distance from our host institution, the University of Nicosia, in the residential area of Makedonitissa. This neighbourhood is one of the most prestigious areas of Nicosia and only a ten minute drive to the city center.

It is a three bedroom house and can accommodate three to six people. The house is fully furnished with wardrobes, writing desks, living room, kitchen with full catering equipment, bathroom with shower and a large front porch.

Maro House 2

It is a six bedroom house and can accommodate six to twelve people. The house is fully furnished with wardrobes, writing desks, living room, kitchen with full catering equipment, bathroom with shower and a veranda.

Housing outside of Nicosia

When we travel, we stay in tourist-class hotels, not hostels. These hotels are clean, safe, comfortable and reasonably located. On these trips, students stay two to a room (same-sex) in the vast majority of cases.

There might be occasions when students will stay three to a room (same-sex) in a triple room.
