Curriculum and Faculty

Global Learning Semesters is partnered with the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG) for our Business Semester in Mexico program. Our host institution is fully accredited and will provide the transcript for students successfully completing academic course work.

The programs are designed and administered by the Centro Internacional de Idiomas (CII) and the UAG. Students enrolled in the program obtain official credit from the UAG. The semester term lasts for 16 weeks and the required curriculum is worth 16-19 credits (320-362 class hours). The CII is a part of the UAG and it is fully endorsed by UAG and the Secretaría de Educación Pública, Mexico’s equivalent of a Ministry of Education.

Curriculum

The Semester in Mexico: Business is designed for students with an intermediate to advanced level of Spanish interested in Latin American business and who want to experience firsthand how business is conducted in Mexico.

This program has a set curriculum that combines Spanish grammar and conversation classes with a specialized language course focused on Business Spanish and a business course from the UAG’s College of Business taught in Spanish and attended by Mexican and Latin American students. The curriculum’s details can be found below:

• 12 credits of Spanish grammar and conversation (160 hours) at the appropriate level (5-8) and 4 credits of Business Spanish for a total of 16 credits, and;
• 3 credits for a business course taught in Spanish from the UAG’s College of Business.
  

In addition to the Spanish language courses, students will visit successful Mexican national and multinational businesses operating out of Guadalajara to learn about Latin American business practices and get to use the vocabulary acquired in class.

Depending on availability and subject to approval, students may sign up for a 15-hour/week unpaid internship with a small-to-medium Mexican company operating out of Guadalajara.

Placement Test

Students must take a standard language placement test in order to be assigned correctly to their appropriate level for the Spanish grammar and conversation course.
