Semester in Belize: Environmental Studies
Curriculum and Faculty
Overview
Global Learning Semesters partners with Galen University to provide accredited, academic programs in Belize. Galen University is a small, private, comprehensive university registered with the Ministry of Education in Belize and authorized to grant bachelor’s and Master’s level degrees. Galen was established on U.S. higher education structure and academic rigor. The university functions in English, the official language of Belize.
The advantage of studying environmental studies and sustainable development in Belize is that students get hands on experience, in one of the most protected and bio-diverse ecosystems on Earth. Belize has the largest Barrier Reefs in the Western Hemisphere, jungle rivers, rainforests and other great areas of environmental interest and importance. As a developing country, it offers rich examples of the importance of strategic sustainable development for emerging issues of globalization, environmental protection, economic growth, poverty reduction and human rights.
