Semester in Belize

Curriculum and Faculty

Global Learning Semesters partners with Galen University to provide accredited, academic programs in Belize. Galen University is a small, private, comprehensive university registered with the Ministry of Education in Belize and authorized to grant bachelor’s and Master’s level degrees. Galen was established on U.S. higher education structure and academic rigor. The university functions in English, the official language of Belize.

Belize has well developed agriculture and ecotourism industries and is easily accessible as a travel destination. A multi-cultural society working to prove a commitment to sustainable development, Belize is a close-to-perfect learning laboratory for studying sustainable development, business, tourism, anthropology and culture in the context of a developing nation.

The heritage and diverse ecosystems of Belize provide ample opportunities for field studies and experiences for a number of courses (archaeology, ecology, botany, biology, zoology, conservation). The peaceful and leisurely lifestyle of the local environment encourages students to focus on their studies and the bilingual nature of the Cayo District allows students to take classes and interact with locals in English and practice Spanish language in the community.
